Saturday, June 9 was a truly special day in Briarcliff! More than 50 families came together for a Community Build to construct a large new piece of playground equipment at Briarcliff Elementary. Briarcliff residents Jason and Katie Egli wanted to create a memorial for their son, Benjamin who passed away last summer. In partnership with the Briarcliff PTA and Briarcliff Trails of Our Community, this project developed that will touch the lives of so many kids and students of the Briarcliff community. Volunteers worked hard for almost five hours constructing the equipment, and spreading mulch around the new and existing part of the playground. Thank you so much to everyone who donated their time and energy to this heartwarming project. There will be a dedication ceremony this fall once the memorial plaque is in place to honor Benjamin.

On September 26, Students, staff, faculty and families from Briarcliff Elementary-North Kansas City Schools met at Latte Land in Briarcliff Village and marched up Briarcliff Parkway to the school to celebrate International Walk to School Day. They were joined by the North Kansas City High School drumline and cheer squad, the Kansas City and NKC Police and residents and local businesses from the Briarcliff Community. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a huge success! Wouldn't it be nice to walk along the trails in our community and be able to identify the different kinds of trees? We thought this was a great idea, so we spent the afternoon with a lady from the Missouri Conservation Department who pointed out all the different trees along the Briarcliff Nature Trail.
Students at Briarcliff Elementary frequently visit these trails during class and on their own leisure time, and are always asking, "What kind of tree is that?" After our visit with the MO Conservation Department, we learned there are hundreds of different kinds of trees along the nature trails. Some are a little tricky to identify, but the clues can be found in the leaves, acorns, bark, size and growth pattern. We are so excited for kids, and fellow neighbors, to finally be able to see what kinds of trees are surrounding us. Pictured above are 1st grade students from Briarcliff Elementary leaving carrots and calling for the Lirpaloof bird on the Briarcliff nature trail, that only comes out on the first day of April. Who knew our trails were home to such magical creatures?!
Support Briarcliff Elementary by purchasing trash bags through March 7. All bags are 100% recycled, heavy duty trash bags that are 2x thicker than those found in stores. Thanks so much!
